Hello-February

The Pool is Staying Heated!

The Board discussed heating the pool through February and approved to continue to keep it heated.  The regular heating schedule is from March 1st to December 1st.  The heat will stay on the rest of the year and will be scheduled to be turned off as of December 1, 2021.

January Board Meeting Summary

  • The Board discussed heating the pool through February and approved to continue to keep it heated until December 1, 2021.
  • They adopted the AB 3182 rule change regarding Rental or Leasing restrictions. You can find the adopted rule on the Gallery website under the Governing Documents page.
  • The Annual 2021/2022 Budgets for the Gallery & Seagarden were approved by the Board.  The annual budget mailer will be sent via email to all owners who are signed up for electric correspondence and by mail to owners who have opted out.  There will not be an increase to the Gallery monthly assessment this year.
  • Seagarden monthly assessment will increase $17.40 bringing the assessment to $105 monthly starting April 1, 2021.  If you are set up on automatic bill pay through your bank, please remember to update the amount to avoid any late fees and interest.
  • The Board approved Champion Paving to complete the seal coating for the clubhouse parking lot.  We anticipate this project will begin sometime in late spring-early summer. Stay tuned for the start date of this project via email blast.
  • The Annual Earthquake Insurance for the Gallery was approved for renewal.
  • To continue to support the on-going development of the new Gallery website, the Board approved adding a standing Website Committee and appointed the members who have served on the Ad-Hoc website Committee.

The Board previously approved the Landscape project Phases 1-3 for the enhancement of the Gallery entrance, Clubhouse Island, Clubhouse entry, and pool and spa area. The Board approved $71,679.50 for this project and the project is anticipated to be completed on budget. The final part of the project is to purchase two large planter pots for the front entrance of the clubhouse.  The Landscape Committee is working on this final piece.

The Landscape Committee will start working on Phase 4 of this project in the Spring which will consist of the clubhouse slope area.

Presidents Message

As the county begins to distribute COVID-19 vaccines, residents have asked about having the vaccine available at the Gallery.

The Board asked management to look into this request.  Lauren has reached out to the OC Health Department and the City of San Clemente.  We received a response back from the Mayor of San Clemente advising us we are not able to receive the COVID19 Vaccine in our community as we do not have an RCF (Residential Care Facility) license.  Mayor Ward also advised that, due to the limited supply of vaccines, the County is supplying what is available to the Disneyland superpod, Soka University superpod, and other prioritized locations. As Vaccines become available appointments are made available.

Individuals who are over 65 and live or work in Orange County should register online through the Othena website to view available appointments and to keep informed with upcoming availability.

Othena is a vaccine scheduling system created by CuraPatient, and is operating here in conjunction with the Orange Co. Health Dept.

There are currently over 400,000 people registered on the Othena site, so processing these will take some time.  When there are more vaccines available and the County can open more pod locations we will be notified.

You can also try to register at UCI or Mission Hospital to be placed on their waiting lists. We are aware that Memorial Care is scheduling member appointments for February and Kaiser is scheduling member appointments now for early March.

The San Clemente Times had an informative article in the January 27, 2021 issue.  If you have not seen it, click here to view the article on page 5.

We were informed by residents that the San Clemente Senior Center will be hosting a COVID19 Vaccine clinic on February 10th by appointment only.  We reached out to them for more details but have been informed this clinic is full and they are not taking any more appointments.  The SC Senior center did advise us they will notify us if the city gives them another vaccine date.  We will keep you posted.

Also, consider reaching out to your primary care provider to coordinate when and where you can get vaccinated.

COVID19.CA.GOV has updated its website.

If you click on Vaccinate All 58 you will be taken to the latest information regarding vaccinations. https://covid19.ca.gov/vaccines/.  We encourage you to read the information on this site and view the question and answer section as it has pertinent information.

Reminders for conduct in the Common Areas of the Gallery i.e. the Clubhouse and the surrounding areas and amenities:

Social distance and limit close contact:

  • Maintain a distance of at least 6 feet or more from people you don’t live with. Be particularly mindful in areas where it may harder to keep this distance, such as the sports courts and the pool area.
  • Minimize gestures that promote close contact. For example, do not shake hands, bump elbows, or give hugs. Instead wave and verbally greet others.

Wear masks:

  • To reduce the risk of spreading the virus, wear a mask at all times when walking through the common areas and around people who don’t live in your household.
  • Avoid singing, chanting or shouting, especially when not wearing a mask and when within 6 feet of others.

Wash hands:

  • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially after you have been in a public place or after blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing. If soap and water are not readily available, use a hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol. Cover all surfaces of your hands and rub them together until they feel dry.
  • Limit contact with commonly touched surfaces or shared items.
  • Clean and disinfect commonly touched surfaces, including your cell phone, and any shared items between use.

Two more reminders from the CDC…

  • Gatherings with more people pose more risk than gatherings with fewer people.
  • Get your flu vaccine. Gatherings can contribute to the spread of other infectious diseases. Getting a flu shot is an essential part of protecting your health and your family’s health this season.
  • Flu vaccines are still useful any time during the flu season and can still be accessed. Flu vaccine should not be given within 14 days of the COVID vaccine.

We will share any additional information with the community as we learn it.

Take Care and Be Safe.

San Clemente Village: A Wonderful Local Resource

When you hear of San Clemente Village, you might think it’s a senior living facility. On the contrary, it is a vibrant organization of vetted volunteers who provide planned events, activities, programs, and services for those aged 55 and over in our beautiful town.

Their vision is to help people thrive and live well in their homes.

San Clemente Village is part of the nation-wide Village to Village network, which, the website says, “...pioneered the way for a positive, forward-thinking model for aging.” Village Movement California is our state-run branch, and in 2016, San Clemente was lucky enough to get its’ own Village organization.

Our local Village’s Executive Director is Jan Montague. She has a gerontology background and is also on the state Village Board. Gallery residents Diane Edwards and Sandi Shoden are board members and Marlene Oliphant is a membership volunteer.

Pre-Covid, the Village calendar listed nearly a dozen activities a month. Typical outings include Bridge and lunch, Dine Around, Movie Matinee, and Exploring Technology, educational programs on a variety of topics, and other social activities. San Clemente Village makes it easy to connect with those members who have similar interests.

During Covid, a Zoom coffee hour and happy hour are the main events, along with birthday gift bag delivery.

Services like these are offered to members:

Computer/phone assistance

Paperwork organizing

Transportation within a 20-mile radius

Indoor and outdoor home maintenance services

Pet Assistance

Zoom educational programs

Village health companion for medical appointments

Puzzle exchange

Phone check-ins

Socially-distanced Front Porch and patio visits

Even during this time of social distancing, San Clemente Village Volunteers are reachable by phone from 10:00 am – 3:00 pm daily to provide assistance for services. They are the matchmakers who make sure that the appropriate person is called to provide help for each request.

To inquire about membership or volunteer opportunities, visit their website at scvillage.org or call 949-441-1348.
