“If you call for a deputy, you get a deputy”
Apparently, we have had several incidents of unknown persons seen “loitering” or sitting in cars in the Gallery recently but residents report they did not call the police. Reporting incidents to the Clubhouse staff several days after they occur is of no use.
Captain Anthony Benfield, the OCSD Chief of Police Services for the city of San Clemente was recently a speaker at the Talega Neighborhood Delegate meeting. He had a number of interesting things to say about the city and the Talega neighborhood.
Captain Benfield shared that Sheriff Don Barnes is dedicated to the practice “If you call for a deputy, you get a deputy”. Since most COVID restrictions have been lifted, the department has made a commitment to answer all calls for a deputy, in person, within 15 minutes; 5 minutes for 911 calls.
Important for us in the Gallery is that the Sheriff’s Department now has a San Clemente station, so officers are now more local and available. The department has 5 sergeants, 29 patrol deputies, 2 traffic deputies, 1 school resource deputy and 4 community service officers. They also have 4 investigators and 5 crime prevention specialists.

The HOA would save significant money each year if all homeowners agreed to receive monthly dues statements and required official documents via email.
